This is an illustration I did for the August 2014 issue of Popular Science Magazine. The assignment was to show a scifi take on human aging in the future. I wanted to do something relatively positive, so I drew a lady whose life has been been prolonged through cybernetic enhancements and augmentation, so she gets to spend time with her great-great-great-great grandchildren.

Thanks to AD Michelle Mruk!

this is beautiful

So I keep wanting to reblog Cyborg Matriarch here, but I keep losing track of her.

She’s not getting away this time.

I really want a sci-fi story to go with this.

Qilin Room Guardian Commission
Design belongs to owner

I truly adore how this qilin came out. I was given a design with some artistic liberties. I had a lot of fun translating these colors into a room guardian.

This qilin has a tiger eye crystal heart. Its back stands about 6" tall. It has a coat of high quality faux fur and reversible sequins. The neck has a fully poseable plastic ball and socket armature inside that will not wear out over time. The forelegs and tail are also fully poseable with a wire armature inside. The horns are sculpted from instamorph plastic and are quite durable.

I just had this hyper-realistic dream and like. I don’t even know what to make of this lmao

I was sitting in this park, on a bench, looking up at the night sky and all the stars and stuff, and I blinked and suddenly the entire sky was different. I’m talking different constellations, the sky absolutely packed with billions more stars, some so close they’re massive. I’m like wtf and suddenly I realise there’s an old man sitting next to me, dressed in like 1940s clothing, also looking up at the sky.

before I can ask him if he’s you know, noticed, he speaks, without looking away from the sky.

“this is what the universe really looks like,” he tells me.

“oh,” I say. a pause. “…can you put it back?”

he smiles and nods. I look up. the sky has gone back to normal.

“what do I do with this information?” I ask, looking at him again.

he turns his head and, smiling, looks me dead in the face. "be careful.“

hey op im pretty sure you mightve just met god or something like that

This is fucking terrifying

big nope

I would’ve been so shook

Awww whale.

Whale I didn’t see that coming

it would’ve scared the fuck out of me holy shit that’s big

So for anybody who doesn’t know, that ring of bubbles you see coming up before the humpback does is a “net” that the whale creates by swimming in a circle and blowing the bubbles from its blowhole. The bubble net disorients the krill/small fish/whatever and corrals them into one spot so that the whale can lunge up and feed as you see it doing. It’s most often done cooperatively in groups, and a whole bunch of whales will lunge up at once.

In other news that is one deep harbor, holy shit.
